Andy Cunningham, '05
Currently: Studying abroad through the Duke in China Program
Location: Kunming, China
Education: Duke University, International Relations and Chinese, Class of 2008
After his study abroad program, Andy is planning to travel back to Kenya to begin construction on the first all-girls boarding school in a small fishing village. He was in Kenya last summer with his professor and co-founded WISER: The Women's Institute for Secondary Education Research, a boarding school for 320 girls with enrollment beginning in September 2008 ( www.wisergirls.org). The program is raising $550,000 to bring electricity and water for the first time to this area, along with the school.
Recently, Andy was awarded a Truman Scholarship. He is sure that he will go to graduate school, but hasn't decided where. Ultimately, Andy hopes to go into international education policy development.
